Mongolia has officially launched its national carbon credit registry, marking a pivotal moment for the country's participation in voluntary carbon markets. The registry, developed in partnership with the Mongolian Environment Ministry, will track and verify carbon credits generated by domestic projects.
The initiative aligns with Mongolia's Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) under the Paris Agreement, which commits the country to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 22.7% by 2030 compared to business as usual.
Projects eligible for registration include sustainable agricultural land management (SALM), grassland restoration, renewable energy, and forest conservation activities.
